Week 11

On Monday we brought back our What's in a Name questions that we answered with our parents over the weekend.  We looked at pictures of clothing from around the world.  We discovered that we have a lot of different nationalities represented in our classes.  Then we began to sketch our traditional clothing.  The next step was to make the clothing out of paper for our paper dolls.  We will be finishing them today and then using our questions to write about them.

After learning all of the lower case letters, we have started to learn capital letters in cursive writing and have been learning to write sentences with them.

This week we started basketball in gym.  We've been learning how to control the ball and dribble.  We have discovered that our teachers are good at basketball.  We played a game called basketball tag, dribbled the ball behind our backs and through our legs.

In Math, we are continuing to work on number sense.  We have been working on fact families, addition and subtraction with regrouping.  we need to continue to work on our rounding skills and estimation skills.

In Social Studies, we are starting our inquiry "How does where your live affect your quality of life?" We are going to be studying 4 countries: Peru, India, Ukraine and Tunisia and comparing them with Canada.  We learned about the equator, the north and south poles and looked at maps and globes.

Mrs Gjosund came back to our class to continue our work on being social detectives.  This week we learned about whole body listening.  When we are listening to people, we need to make sure that we are not too close to anyone but still stay in the group.  We need to keep our hands to ourselves, mouths closed, listen with our hearts, use your eyes to look at the speaker, our brains to think about the same thing as the speaker,  keep your feet to yourself and use our ears listen to the speaker.
