We Remember

This week we learned about Remembrance Day and why we celebrate it.  We celebrate it to remember all of the people who sacrificed their lives for our freedom in the war.  We wear poppies leading up to Remembrance Day because John McCrae who was a Canadian Soldier in World War One wrote a poem about the poppies growing in Flanders Fields.  We created some poppy art and wrote cinquain poems about Remembrance day.  On Friday we had a Remebrance Day Assembly.

In Math this week we are continuing with number sense.  We continued to work on rounding numbers, estimating sums and working on mental math.  Mrs McLellan's math group were given a number challenge to solve.

We finished reading the book The Wild Robot.  We really loved the book and can't wait until the sequel comes out in March.  We received letters from our pen pals this week in Wisconsin.  We will be writing them back in the coming week.

We are finishing up  our Rocks and Minerals unit and will be starting a new inquiry, our question will be "How does where you live affect your quality of life?"  This area of study will look at the four countries: India, Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine as will as comparing them to different regions in Canada.  We will be incorporating our science units: Testing Materials and Building Things into this inquiry.

Students came home with an assignment to look into how they got their name, what it means and where they are from, we will be completing the next part of the assignment in the coming weeks.
