Welcome November and winter weather. Now that the weather is cold and snowy, we need to make sure that we come to school dressed for the weather. We are outside for recess and lunch unless the temperature drops below -20C. We should be wearing warm winter jackets, snow pants, gloves, hats and boots. We need to ensure that we have indoor shoes to wear at school.
On Monday we looked closely at the pumpkins that have been in our classroom. We estimated how much they weighed, measured them and weighed them.
We wrote about pumpkins using our five senses. We got to scoop out the seeds and pulp from the pumpkins. "The inside of the pumpkin felt really slimy" Reet. Our teachers took home the seeds and roasted them and we got to taste them on Halloween. On Halloween day there were many students dressed up in their costumes. Even our teachers dressed up. We had a fun afternoon on Halloween and got to do a STEM project called "Saving Fred". We had to save Fred (a gummy worm) into his lifesaver that was under a cup using only 4 paperclips. We weren't able to use our hands at all, some of us found it easy and others found it challenging. We also had popcorn snack from parent council that day.
We have been learning about the Rights of the Child in Social Studies. The United Nations decided that “Rights" are things every child should have or be able to
do. All children have the same rights. These rights are listed
in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Almost every country has agreed to these rights. All the
rights are connected to each other, and all are equally
important. We were each given a right and then we drew a picture using line drawings to depicting it. We painted backgrounds and then added our picture to it.
We are finishing off our Rocks and Minerals unit with some centers comparing different rocks. We are drawing and measuring them and then writing our observations down. We will have a test on Rocks and Minerals next Tuesday.
