This was an exciting week, we had an in school field trip.
Scientists in Schools came and taught us about rocks and minerals. They had centers set up and we learned about the 3 different types of rocks. Some of the activities that we completed were: We made metamorphic rocks out of clay to show the different layers and how they changed with pressure and heat.
We learned that some rocks change over time to become different types of rocks. We learned about the scratch test to learn about the hardness of different rocks. We did the streak test, where we rubbed rocks on a plate to see if it left a colour.
We made a soil sample to learn about the different layers of soil. We learned about sedimentary rocks and how they are formed in water. At the end of the presentation, we got to take a rock home with us.
We completed some art this week. We have been working on our descriptive writing this month and have been creating monsters and writing about them. We made paper collage monsters in Picasso's style and then write about them. Picasso liked to create art that was unusual, we learned that it was called Abstract art. He liked to create portraits that showed more than one point of view (profile and straight on),
In Math Ms Greaves' group had a test on addition and subtraction, we were learning different strategies to help us add and subtract. Mrs McLellan's group has been continuing their work on place value to 10 000 and have been comparing and ordering numbers. We learned about least and greatest and the symbols that are used to compare numbers. Miss Macleod's group has also been working on place value and representing numbers to 100.
Next week is Halloween, remember that we can wear our costumes to school on Tuesday. They have to be appropriate for school, that means that they cannot have any weapons, be too gory, no full face masks. You want to have a costume that is comfortable and easy to wear at school for gym and going to the bathroom. Please leave your candy at home next week after trick or treating.
