Welcome to May, it has been a busy couple of weeks with swimming and we haven't had the chance to update our blog.
Last Friday we had a Jump Rope for Heart assembly. We learned about FAST - Face, Arms, Speech, and time, these are all signs of a stroke and you should call 911 if you notice someone is having these symptoms. We are raising money for the Heart and Stroke foundation, bring back the envelopes on Thursday May 17th.
This week in Social Studies we started to learn about Peru. Peruvians use Llama and Alpaca wool to make clothing. In Peru if something is too heavy for them to carry, they put them on Llamas to help carry things. Peru is located in South America, they speak Spanish and English.
This week we did some research about chicken development. We learned that they are in the shell for about 21 days, that they use the yolk for food while in the egg and that they have an egg tooth to help them get out of the shell. Farmer Mark came to look at the chicks on Tuesday. He is expecting them to hatch next week, unfortunately we had some disappointing news about the chicks, only 2 of our eggs are viable.
On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have Quest Theatre come to our school and put on a performance of the play "We Are All Treaty People". In this play A Trickster poses the question of whether friendship can exist between two girls who don’t understand
the shared history between their cultures. It explores the historical
significance of the events at Blackfoot Crossing in 1877,
while investigating the consequences and implications of
Treaty 7, 139 years later. In the afternoon, the entire school came together to take part in a round dance in the gym.
