Welcome December

This week the students in Rooms 12 and 14 began to research holidays and celebrations around the world that are celebrated in the winter.
"We learned that during Eid they go to a temple and over a million people are praying there." Arshia

" In Sweden, Norway and Finland they celebrate St Lucia Day on December 13th by having young girls with white dresses and candles in their crown come to sing to  people and bring them saffron buns.  They only use white lights at christmas there. " Dev and Shreya
" On three kings day, they celebrate the wisemen who brought frankincense, gold and myrrh on January 6th. " Reet

"Christmas is celebrated in different ways around the world but most places celebrate it on the same day. " Jasmeen

We learned about levers and how they work.  We drew a blueprint to design a nutcracker that uses a lever and has symbols for the holiday that we learned about.  Today we are going to be sharing our blueprints and using the maker carts to build nutcrackers.

In Math, we are working on addition, subtraction and word problems.  The students in Ms Greaves group are writing their own word problems.  In Mrs McLellan's group we have been working a lot on our mental math skills.

In gym this week, we have started dancing.  A lot of the students like the dance Whip it Nae Nae.

Next week the patrols are going to be selling candy canes, they will be 50 cents each and you can order them from your teachers and they will be delivered either December 19th or 20th.
