One Week to go!

This week in Math we started to work on word problems with addition and subtraction.  We need to be able to read the problem and figure out which operation to use to solve the problem.  On Tuesday in Ms. Greaves group, we had a special guest in our class.  Her name is Ms Beamer and she is a math coach that is working with our school.

In Language Arts this week we read the book, The Polar Express.  We compared the point of view of different characters in the story and how they get ready for Christmas and the Polar Express.  We compared the real North Pole to the North Pole that is depicted in the book. Next week we are going to watch the movie and make a comparison to the book.

In Social Studies this week we continued to look at how where you live affects how you live.  We looked at food prices in Northern Canada and found that it is really expensive to buy food.  We also compared what people eat in a week around the world.

We made google slide presentations about how different countries celebrate different winter holiday traditions.  We found it challenging to add the images to our slide show.   Some of us need to practice logging into the computers, we don't all know our user names and passwords yet.

On Thursday we read the book The Amazing Christmas Extravaganza, it was about a man who went overboard decorating his house for Christmas.  He annoyed all of his neighbors.  We are drawing scenes inside a snow globe, and imaging what it would be like to live inside our snow globe.

Next week we have a lot going on at CJFS.  On Tuesday our class is having a potluck lunch, please see the information that was sent home on Wednesday about this.  The grade 5/6 students are having a bake sale to raise money for the Drop In Center, students will be able to purchase items next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Room 12 will be going to the Christmas Store on Monday and room 14 will be going on Tuesday.  On Thursday we have a half day and it is also pajama day.  Students will be off school from December 22 to January 8th.
